Greek and Arabic inspirations for Organizing Medieval Banquents. The Pseudo-Aristotelian Secretum secretorum as a source and a model for Medieval Advice Literature
Original language description
The study focuses on the influence of Arabic adab literature on European Latin literature. This is demonstrated by the example of texts of Arabic origin which at the same time conveyed knowledge of ancient philosophy and literature - first and foremost the pseudo-Aristotelian Secretum secretorum. These texts are analysed here in terms of their position as possible genre inspirations for treatises written and read in medieval Europe, which belong to the category we call the literature of advice.
