The Prague Belvedere. Imperial Lusthaus of Ferdinand I
Original language description
In Bohemia, the Belvedere, also called Lusthaus, created between 1537 and 1564, was the main architectural project of the Archduke of Austria, the King of Bohemia and Hungary and the Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand I of Habsburg. The building belongs to a small group of the first transalpine structures built and decorated in the Renaissance style, which stands out for the number and intensity of its references to ancient Rome. Ferdinand built the Lusthaus to proclaim his rightful ambition for the imperial title.
