Was There an Alternative to the „Transfer“ of German Minorities from Czechoslovakia and Poland during the 1939-1944 Discussions on Post-War Europe by the Governments-in-Exile?
Original language description
During the discussions of the exile Governments on the post war Europe 1939-1944 deals with the question of possible alternatives to expulsions and resettlement of German population from Czechoslovakia, Poland and Hungary, which took place between 1944–1947. It represents controversial theme and is still opened for discussions. The study compares the ideas presented by the Czech and Polish resistance movements both at home and in exile especially in connection with the question of post war frontiers in Central Europe. The position of Czechoslovak and Polish exile Governments is confronted with the position of wartime Allied Powers, especially with Great Britain and USSR. It comes to conclusion that the most important factor however was the actual situation on the liberated territories and more radical policies applied by the Polish Provisional Government and the Czechoslovak Government of National Front.
