Original language description

Garden history literature has traditionally been interested in the form and shape of gardens. However, recent research has focused on processes of maintanance, daily praxis, and other aspects that are beyond the reach of traditional art history methodology. In this case, the garden of the Markgraves of Baden-Baden in Ostrov (Schlackenwerth, Bohemia) was studied on the basis of archival sources and contemporary literature from the 18th century. The paper discusses the role of the different actors (the owner, gardeners, visitors) and the historical context (War of the Polish Succession) in the maintanance and every-day life of the garden.
