A Knight and Intellectual: Hieronymus Beck of Leopoldsdorf and His Library
Original language description
This study presents the results of research of previously unknown book collection of the Austrian aristocrat Hieronymus Beck von Leopoldsdorf from the end of the 16th century. The research has shown that this was a unique and little known type of aristocratic library that was somewhere on the dividing line between a purely intellectual collection and a prestige library. The author also attempts, on the basis of the library?s acquisitions and reader preferences, to decipher the previously unknown intellectual horizons of its owner.
