Problems measuring the underground economy in transition
Original language description
An easy method for measuring the size of the underground economy is to use macro data such as money demand or electricity demand to infer what the legitimate economy needs, and then to attribute the remaining consumption to the underground economy. We argue that the pace of change of these parameters is too variable in transition economies for the above methods of estimating the size of the underground economy to be applicable.

Jednoduchá metoda pro měření velikosti šedé ekonomiky používá makro data, například poptávku po penězích nebo poptávku po elektřině, pro dedukci potřeb legální ekonomiky, a pak se zbývající spotřeba přisoudí šedé ekonomice. Argumentujeme, že tempo změn těchto parametrů je v tranzitivních ekonomikách příliš proměnlivé vzhledem k aplikovatelnosti těchto metod odhadu velikosti šedé ekonomiky.
