Viscous Creep Regime in Creep Resistant Steels.

  • Original language description

Viscous creep behaviour at low strain rates was detected in two types of creep resistant steels: ferritic type P-91 and austenitic AISI-316H. Creep tests at stresses below 100 MPa and temperatures from 848K to 1073K were conducted on two types of creep resistant steels. Helicoid spring specimen technique was used with the average test duration about 2000 hrs. The maximum testing temperature used for the P-91 steel was 923 K due to the limited stability of its structure. Viscous creep (i. e. creep havingthe stress exponent close to one) was proved in both steels under the loading conditions described above. The secondary creep rate for AISI-316H is about two times lower than that of P-91 under the same testing conditions. The difference can be easily explained by the difference in mean grain size of both materials, supposing that the diffusional creep is the prevailing deformation mechanism. Unfortunately, it is not possible to identify the creep mechanism properly, because there is no
