Crack initiation mechanisms.
Original language description
There is no generally accepted quantitative description of the initiation process and there is no widely applicable description of the propagation of the microstructurally small cracks. Thus, any numerical analysis of the initiation of microcracks and following propagation of microstructurally small cracks must be preceded by deeper understanding of physical mechanisms. The aim of the article is to offer an overview of the present state of the initiation mechanisms in metals.
