Fracture toughness transferability - from small to full scale specimens.
Original language description
The capability of pre-cracked Charpy type specimens for prediction of fracture toughness characteristics for standard (1T) specimens has been analysed. Two methodologies - the toughness scaling models and the master curve methodology have been followed.Cast,low-carbon manganese steel from midthickness of thick walled plate was used as experimental material being tested as a candidate material for container casks of spent nuclear fuel. The Dodds-Anderson toughness scaling model was applied for toughnessdata correction from PCVN pecimens. This approach was combined with master curve methodology for fracture oughness - temperature diagram and loading rate effects predictions. The Koppenhoefer scaling diagram based on Weibull stress was also tested supplying good correlation of predicted data with real behaviour.
