Growth of short cracks in ferritic stainless steel.
Original language description
The kinetics of short crack gowth has been studied in ferritic stainless steels. Cylindrical specimens with shallow notch were subject to constant plastic strain amplitude loading. The notch area has been mechanically and electrochemically polished to facilitate the observation of the crack initiation and growth. The natural cracks were initiated in constant amplitude loading with different plastic strain amplitudes and kinetics of its growth has been studied. Numerous crack propagated and some of themlinked together. The concept of 'equivalent crack' proved be useful. The experimental data for the whole range of applied plastic strain amplitudes were analyzed using present approaches and relevant parameters allowing the description of the kinetics ofthe short crack growth were evaluated. The results were discussed in reference to the life prediction of bodies without inherent cracks.
