Fatigue behaviour of ferritic-pearlitic-bainitic steel in loading with positive mean stress
Original language description
Effect of the mean stress on the cyclic stress-strain response, cyclic creep and fatigue life in ferritic-pearlitic-bainitic steel has been studied. Cylindrical specimens produced from from a massive forging of dimensions 500x500x2800 mm3 of 42CrMo4 steel (ferritic-pearlitic-bainitic structure) were cycled in computer controlled testing system. Stress and strain were recorded and plastic strain amplitude was evaluated from the half-width of the hysteresis loop. Both symmetrical plastic strain controlledtests and stresss controled tests with different mean stresses were performed. Experiments studying the initiation and short crack growth at different mean stresses confirm the decissive role of the plastic strain amplitude for the rate of short crack growth and thus also for the fatigue life.
