E?ect of Internal Stresses on Fracture Behaviour of Alumina and Zirconia Based Layered Composites
Original language description
Laminates with strong bond between layers were examined in this work to explore influence of internal stresses on the fracture behaviour. A set of laminates having different level of internal stresses were prepared. Alumina and zirconia were the model materials for alternating layers. The electrophoretic deposition technique was used for manufacturing of the laminates. The basic mechanical properties as elastic modulus and flexural strength were determined. The crack propagation changes due to internalstresses, elastic mismatch, surface effects etc. were investigated using various method. The indentation cracking and modified single edge notched beam technique was employed. An extensive fractographic analysis of fracture surfaces was undertaken. The dependence between crack direction in the alternating layers and level of internal stresses were described in detail. Conclusions taking in to account surface effects were pronounced.
