Crack under biaxial loading: Two-parameter description and prediction of crack growth direction
Original language description
In the present paper, the effect of biaxial load on the direction of crack propagation was studied by means of two parameter fracture mechanics. For this purpose, various stress ratios (R = sx/sy) were chosen for numerical calculation. For biaxial load, mixed mode fracture behaviour and various level of constraint near the crack tip were expected. Two different forms of the MTS criterion (classical and considering T-stress) were used for the numerical estimation of the crack propagation direction in theplate by biaxial load. The results obtained by using both criteria were compared.
