Small punch test - the way how to obtain material mechanical properties from very small volumes
Original language description
The contribution is focused on determination of mechanical properties from small amounts of material by small punch test (SPT) on miniature disc specimens from materials such as steels and light alloys. SPT has been applied in three principle ways: i) the constant deflection rate tests (SPT-CDR) allow to estimate the yield and ultimate tensile strength, ductility and energy to penetrate the specimen, ii) the constant force experiments (SPT-CF) are certain analogy to creep tests and enable to determine the creep strain rate and creep life of materials, iii) the relaxation small punch test (SPT-CD) can be performed when the disc is loaded to chosen deflection and allows evaluating initial stress, residual stress, creep rate and its dependence on the stress. Obtained properties by SPT can be compared with mechanical properties determined by conventional tests. Various relationships for an assessment of conventional mechanical properties from quantities obtained by small punch test are pre
