The effect of skewness and kurtosis on thenprobability evaluation of fatigue limit states
Original language description
The article presents the probabilistic analysis of thenlimit state function of the fatigue resistance of a steel bridge, which isnnumerically described as the total number of cycles to failure. Annexample of the evaluation of the histogram of the fatigue resistance ofna steel member using the Latin Hypercube sampling method andnlinear fracture mechanics based on Paris-Erdogan’s law is presented.nProbabilistic models of input variables for which the fatiguenresistance has a typical log-normal probability density function arendescribed. Differences between the stochastic analyses of onenmember with one edge crack and the entire steel bridge are discussed.nAttention is paid in the limit state function to the effects of skewnessnand kurtosis of the fatigue resistance on the time-dependent failurenprobability.n
