    The aim of this article is to introduce method for evaluation of the lifetimesnof smooth and notched specimens in the area of highcycle and gigacycle fatigue ofnmaterials. The theory of critical distances is used for evaluation and recalculation ofnthe fatigue life curves. The effect of the notch is quantified using the line method,nwhich uses the length parameterl. This critical parameterl can be used for predictionsnof fatigue lifetimes of notched components.
