Interaction of a fatigue crack and a corrosion dimple in a high-strength steel specimen
Original language description
Both corrosion and fatigue crack propagation are the most common phenomena degrading metal/steel structures. Therefore, an nextensive study is performed on this topic. Namely, results of a numerical analysis made on 2D model of a rectangular specimen ncontaining a corrosion pit near a short edge crack that is arbitrarily oriented towards the cyclic tensile loading. Thus, I+II mixed nmode conditions are created and the behavior of the crack is investigated by means of the concept of the equivalent stress intensity nfactor range. Discussion on effect of various parameters (such as crack length, corrosion pit size, crack inclination angle) on fatigue ncrack propagation is presented and important conclusions, that can help in further numerical/experimental analyses, are nsummarized.
