    B-Fe-Si metallic glass ternary alloys are an attractive class of materials that are used for their unique magnetic properties as transformer core materials. Furthermore, this material is used in the construction of sensors or biosensors. The main controversy related to the B-Fe-Si system is the lack of the systematic studies of the phase equilibria. Four ternary intermetallic phases were reported. The crystal structure of Fe2Si0.4B0.6 is not yet established, while the stability of (Fe,Si)3B or Fe3(Si,B) is disputed. Not much is actually known about the invariant reactions in the system. Despite the availability of several thermodynamic assessments, further systematic experimental efforts are recommended to clarify the phase equilibria in the system. The evaluation includes tentative liquidus surface, two isothermal sections, and a plot comparing the experimental composition regions of amorphization established with the critical cooling rates for amorphization.
