Stabilization on the basis of saturated absorption in molecular iodine may be called a traditional method and due to good signal-to-noise ratio at the 532 nm of frequency doubled Nd:YAG laser gives very good results. Only near-ideal purity of the iodinein the absorption cell can result in optical frequencies corresponding to theoretical values. The absolute frequencies of the iodine transitions are measured in direct laser frequency comparison performed with a pair of iodine stabilized Nd:YAG lasers with the reproducibility well below the kHz level which approaches the sensitivity limit of the purity measurement method.
