    Analysis of transmitted gamma spectrum upon scintillator shading

  • Original language description

    The optical fibres utilised for scintillator signal transport offer the potential for the long-term and high-energy measurement of ionising radiation. The optical link based on the optical fibres prolongs the life of photosensitive electronics by placing them outside the radiation field. The issue arising from the optical fibre placement between the scintillator and photosensitive electronics consists of gamma spectra recognition loss. Moreover, the absence of spectra recognition leads to an inability to recognise the ionising radiation source in an unknown environment. This is caused mainly by the diameter and numerical aperture of the fibre. The fibre shades much of the light emitted by the irradiated scintillator and resolves it into a weaker signal at the end. To simulate the behaviour of this system, the optical fibre is replaced by the iris. By adjusting the diameter of the aperture, we investigate changes in the transmitted signal and its impact on the spectra. These changes were then evaluated for the optimal diameter of the optical link.
