Large timing infrastructure with sub ns precision in Czech Republic, with integration of vibrationsensing
Original language description
The distribution of ultra‑precise time and phase‑coherent optical frequency over dedicated fibers or “dark” channels in Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) networks underpins cutting‑edge scientific research, geophysical monitoring, and emerging industrial services. By employing actively‑stabilized, phase‑coherent transfer links we achieve sub‑nanosecond timing jitter and fractional‑frequency instabilities below 10⁻¹⁸ over several hundred kilometres, while preserving the integrity of co‑existing data traffic. In this work we demonstrate that a shared dark spectrum within existing DWDM infrastructure can simultaneously support high‑precision time‑frequency dissemination and distributed vibration sensing. The same spectral allocation is used for real‑time detection of environmental nperturbations such as seismic events and structural vibrations, leveraging phase‑sensitive OTDR and polarization‑based sensing techniques.
