Prehistory of Southern Bahriya. A case study in Northeast African settlement archaeology

  • Original language description

The settlement history of Bahriya begins with the Early Stone Age, a dominant Middle Stone Age, a subsequent hiatus of occupation, and a partial reoccupation during the Late Stone Age. We argue that the desertification of the Sahara stimulated the occupation hiatus in the desert, demographic pressures in the Mediterranean, and, finally, expansions of modern humans to Europe.
