Original language description
This workshop focused on introducing archaeologists to the power of SPARQL (SPARQL Protocol and RDF Query Language) for querying large-scale semantic data sources (Linked Open Data, LOD), with a specific emphasis on Wikidata, DBpedia, and the ARIADNE Knowledge Base. Participants learned how to utilize these platforms to explore, retrieve, and analyze structured archaeological data. The session included hands-on exercises that demonstrated how SPARQL can be applied to extract meaningful insights from diverse datasets, enabling archaeologists to enhance their research workflows, connect disparate resources, and improve data discovery and interoperability in the field of archaeology. Packages implementing SPARQL queries in the R scripting language were showcased as well.
