Woody plants as an important component of the red and roe deer diet in the floodplain forest.
Original language description
The aim of this study was to find out the importance of woody plants in the diet of red and roe deer in the floodplain forest and to estimate the impact of these species on trees in the shrub layer. Microscopic analyses showed that broad-leaved trees were the most importnat component of diet of both species through the entire year. Woody plants formed 50-85% of the red deer and 45-84% of the roe deer diet. The highest proportion of trees in food of both species points to the fact that they may have significant influence on forest stands and can cause considerable damages to forest management.
