Original language description

We examine the evolving concept of what constitutes a non-native (or alien) freshwater fish. In an attempt to distinguish between biogeographical and socio-political perspectives, we review the patterns in the introduction and dispersal of non-native fishes in Europe and North America, and especially the recent expansion of Ponto-Caspian gobies in Europe. We assess patterns in the development of national policy and legislation in response to the perceived threat of non-native fish introductions to native species and ecosystems. We review, and provide a glossary of, the terms and definitions associated with non-native species. Finally, we discuss perspectives as regards the future treatment of naturalized species.

Nepůvodní druhy ryb ? ano či ne?

Czech description

V práci je sledován vývoj konceptu nepůvodních druhů sladkovodních ryb. Byl proveden soupis všech zaregistrovaných introdukcí a rozšíření nepůvodních druhů v ichtyofauně Evropy a Severní Ameriky, se snahou rozlišit biogeografické a socio-politické vlivy,a se speciálním důrazem na současnou expanzi ponto-kaspických druhů hlaváčovitých v Evropě. Posouzen byl rovněž vývoj národních strategií a legislativy v souvislosti s hrozícími negativními důsledky introdukcí nepůvodních druhů na druhy původní a na ekosystémy. Připojen je i výkladový slovník a definice termínů používaných v souvislosti s nepůvodními druhy ryb. V závěru jsou diskutovány otázky perspektiv opatření týkajících se druhů, které se naturalizují.
