Systematics and biogeography of the Mozambique thicket rat, Grammomys cometes, in Eastern Cape Province, South Africa

Original language description

Taxonomy of thicket rats (Grammomys) is highly provisional and the genus is in need of a thorough revision. Different species of the genus were compared applying analyses of cytochrom b sequence, karyotypes and cranial morphology. In spite of their closegenetic proximity, G. cometes and G. dolichurus tend toward ecological segregation and behave as distinct biological species. G. cometes is endemic to southern African subregion. The study contributes to the knowledge of biodiversity of African rodentswith economical importance (pests, diseases transmission).

Systematika a biogeografie krysy kuru dlouhoocasé Grammomys commetes ve Východní Kapské provincii v Jižní Africe

Czech description

Taxonomie krys kuru z rodu Grammomys zatím byla jen nedokonale známá a vyžaduje podrobnou revizi. V této práci byly studovány různé druhy rodu s pomocí analýz sekvencí mitochondriálního genu pro cytochrom b, karyotypu a kraniální morfologie. Formy G. cometes a G. dolichurus jsou navzdory genetické blízkosti ekologicky odděleny a chovají se jako samostatné biologické druhy. G. cometes je endemický pro podoblast jižní Afriky. Studie rozšiřuje znalosti o biodiverzitě afrických hlodavců s potenciálním ekonomickým významem (jako škůdci a přenašeči nemocí).
