The list of alien species in the ichthyofauna of the Czech Republic
Original language description
In the course of the past two centuries, attempts were recorded at introducing or invated 41 non-indigenous fish species in the natural ecosystems of the Czech Republic. Of that number, only 12 species have survived until present. The fully naturalised species that established natural populations include Ameiurus nebulosus, Carassius auratus, Gasterosteus aculeatus, Pseurorasbora parva and Apollonia melanostomus. Occasional and local stable populations are produced by Oncorhynchus mykiss and Salvelinusfontinalis. The occurrence of the remaining species (Aristichthys nobilis, Coregonus maraena, Coregonus peled, Ctenopharyngodon idella and Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) depends on their culture including hand-stripping. On a six-year annual average (2001-2006), the realised production of the alien species attained a total 2002 tonnes. Of the alien species, only C. carassius has shown to be an invasive taxon with a significantly negative impact upon the native ichthyofauna.
