Original language description

Former investigations studied the countryside as a place of agricultural production. Now, geography discovers the countryside as a living space, an area for the regeneration of human strength, for landscape maintenance, for non-agricultural and non-productive activities. Czech peripheral regions are characterized not only by their distance from central places, but usually also by the dissected relief which makes their accessibility difficult. All borderland micro-regions have under-qualified population.Future challenges of rural regions in the Czech borderland are: agricultural production as a tool of the landscape maintenance, landscape protection, tourism, forestry and water management, dwelling function. The next question for the future is whetherthe cross-border cooperation can compensate for the marginality of these regions from the national viewpoint.

Czech description

V minulosti byl venkovský prostor studován především jako území pro zemědělství. Dnes je stále více diskutován jako multifunkční prostor. České pohraničí je periferní kvůli vzdálenosti k centrům, horským polohám a důsledkům poválečné výměny obyvatelstva.Hlavním problémem je horší kvalifikační struktura populace. Budoucí výzvy pro rurální pohraničí jsou následující: bydlení v rámci suburbanizačních a kontraurbanizačních tendencí, údržba a ochrana krajiny, cestovní ruch, lesní hospodářství, zemědělství avodní hospodářství a další výrobní a nevýrobní odvětví. Další otázkou je možnost kompenzace periferní polohy přeshraniční spoluprací.
