High-speed water jet technology for renovation of concrete structures ? new trends and possibilities

  • Original language description

Removal of damaged concrete layers is a very important step in the process of renovation of concrete structures. The removing has to be very done carefully to avoid further weakening of the structure, which has already been damaged. One of cut possibilities is the application of continuous water jet generated by single nozzle or use of continuous abrasive water jet. Continuous water jet is a stream of liquid fl owing at the speed as high as 800 ms-1 (depending on water pressure). Water jet technology (cutting, cleaning and other applications) disintegrates material by means of complicated physical processes by changing kinetic energy of water jet to pressure energy at the point of contact with the surface of worked material.Cutting ability of continuous water jet can be considerably increased by addition of abrasive particles.
