Influence of stress on the permeability of coal and sedimentary rocks of the Upper Silesian Basin
Original language description
The results of measurement of permeability in triaxial state of stress of sedimentary rocks and coal of the Upper Silesian basin is presented in this paper. The study of influence of stress on the permeability was performed by two methods. Permeability measurement during the increase of hydrostatic pressure and study of permeability changes due to the increase of axial stress. The cylindric tested specimens of sedimentary rocks and coal was used for laboratory experiments, the nitrogen was used as a reference gas. The experimental results of the measurement of more than 100 specimens showed that increasing of the hydrostatic pressure affect the pore medium by closing of the pores and cracks and by the decrease of the permeability. The presence and rising of the cracks and fractures in the process of failure multiply the filtration ability of the tested specimens. Therefore the permeability change is one of the very sensitive methods for the observation of the deformation process during
