Utilization of old mine workings in the Czech Republic
Original language description
At present, the number of mines being closed in the Czech Republic begins to grow owing to the depletion of mineral resources as well as the phase out and restructuring of mining activity, justified by the existing unprofitability of mining of some mineral resources. So far, limited interest in the utilization of already closed and also being closed mines, both exploitation voids and surface facilities, for public purposes can be seen. However, foreign experience persuades us of the contrary. But not every closed mine with its surface facilities is suitable for further utilization, which concerns mainly underground mines. The article deals with possibilities of utilization of abandoned excavation voids and surface facilities being closed after the mining of mineral resources.
