Original language description
The Ostrava - Karviná Coalfield is in the southwestern part of the Upper SilesianCoal Basin which extends from southern Poland into the Czech Republic. This coal mine district is situated in a geologically complicated region around the contact between large tectonic units, the older Bohemian Massif and the younger Outer Western Carpathians.
