Performance of a Newly Developed Self-Excited Pulsating Water Jet
Original language description
A new type of water jet nozzle (hydrodynamic water nozzle, HDN) has been developed to generate a so-called self-excited pulsating water jet (SPWJ). Pulsating water jet utilizes impact pressure and therefore, several times more effecient than a continuous water jet when treating a material surface. This article provides insights and findings of this new type of water nozzle. An erosion experiment was performed and evaluated using an aluminium alloy EN AW 6060. Wear of the HDN was examined and compared to the previous version of HDN. A digital microscope was used to measure the amount of removed material and to evaluate the degree of nozzle wear. It has been found that the new geometry of the water nozzle significantly increases efficiency and reduces the wear rate of the nozzle over time.
