Organobeidellites for Removal of Anti-Inflammatory Drugs from Aqueous Solutions

  • Original language description

Diclofenac and ibuprofen are widely prescribed non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs which consumption has rapidly increased in recent years. The biodegradability of pharmaceuticals is negligible and their removal efficiency by wastewater treatment is very low. Therefore, the beidelitte as unique nanomaterial was modified by different surfactants: cetylpyridinium, benzalkonium and tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromides. Organobeidellites were tested as potential nanosorbents for analgesics. Results suggest, that the modification of beidellites can lead to preparation of inexpensive nanosorbents for non-steroidal inflammatory drugs from aqueous solution. The efficiency of sorption is sufficient with respect to relatively low concentrations of pharmaceuticals in wastewaters.
