Towards Kurdish studies in the Czech Republic
Original language description
The only one of its kind so far, this article on research history is an overview of the Kurdish Studies in the Czech Republic and the former Czechoslovakia. It summarizes publications and activities produced by Czech and Slovak academics, geographers, travelers, journalists, filmmakers, authors of memoir literature, and activists who have been interested in the Kurdish issues. In addition to that, significant contributions to raising the awareness of the Czech public about the Kurdsnhave been made by two Kurds based in the former Czechoslovakia ? Abdul Rahman Ghassemlou (the author of the first and the only Czechoslovak academic monograph on the Kurds) and Yekta Uzunoglu (the publisher of a Czech book of Kurdish folk wisdom). The article pays a special attention to their work. It also describes the links of the Czech interest in the Kurdish issues to academics and research institutions in Austria and Poland.n
