Original language description
The early 1930s brought major changes to the societies and literatures of the Soviet Union. On April 23, 1932, the Central Committee of the Communist party issued a resolution that put an end to the literary debates of the 1920s. It declared Socialist Realism the sole method appropriate for Soviet literature. The editors of the “Almanac of Local Jewish Belles Lettres,” the so called Redkollegiia, hailed the Party effort to restructure Soviet literature and literary organizations as a turning point for the local Jewish literary movement in Uzbekistan. Published in Tashkent in 1934, the Almanac featured 58 works of prose and poetry by 15 Jewish authors and represented a high point in the literary output in “Judeo-Tajik,” which denoted Judeo-Persian written in an adapted Latin script.
