In the first part of the paper is outlined the history of housing policy in the Czech Republic dating back to 1918. The second part focus on empirical testing of the effectiveness of selected housing policy subsidies used in the Czech Republic at the endof the 1990s. The goals of new programmes introduced after 1989 were, however, often defined in very generic terms, which make the assessment very difficult. The choice of programmes for the analysis of effectiveness was therefore limited to rent regulation, tax relief, and the housing allowance

V první části studie poskytuje přehled vývoje politiky bydlení v České republice od roku 1918. Druhá část se zaměřuje na empirické ověřování účinnosti vybraných dotací na bydlení využívaných v České republice koncem devadesátých let dvacátého století. Cíle nových programů zavedených po roce 1989 byly nicméně často formulovány velmi obecně, což značně ztěžuje vyhodnocování. Volba programů pro analýzu účinnosti byla proto omezena na regulaci nájemného, daňové úlevy a příspěvek na bydlení
