The Inequality of Participation: Re-examining the Role of Social Stratification on Political Participation across 25 European Countries
Original language description
This paper compares the determinants of political participation across Europe, asking to what degree social inequalities in political participation differ between the former West and East. The analysis is based on the 2nd round of the ESS (2004-2005). Focusing on the role of education, occupation and gender, the analysis finds that those variables have stronger effects in post-communist countries, i.e. that those countries exhibit larger inequalities in political participation than in the West.
