Intimate Partner Homicide and Violence: Evidence from the Murder in Britain Study
Original language description
Using the results of the Murder in Britain Study, we consider evidence and explanations regarding the murder of women in intimate relationships. A brief overview of homicide in various countries provides the context for the specific examination of the murder of women by male partners. Evidence will be used to examine factors associated the murder of an intimate partner and the non-lethal abuse of intimate partner. Three main comparisons will be made: 1) men who murder an intimate partner with men who murder men; 2) men who murder an intimate partner with abusers who use non-lethal violence; 3) intimate partner murderers with previous criminal convictions and those with no previous convictions. Specific focus is upon: socio-demographic characteristics,childhood; adulthood, criminal careers, the violent/murder event, orientations to use of violence, to women in general and to the woman victim.
