The chapter addresses - on biographical data - the transition of female school graduates into the labour market in the Czech Republic. The analysis is focused on the specific features of the early working paths of women in the Czech context. Women with all levels of education, both with children and childless participated in the study. The biographic-narrative data cover both the richness and variety of reflected in the realization of life and employment trajectories. The biographical accounts reveal both the role of personal characteristics as well as cultural, institutional and structural conditions which influence careers of young women and their professional and gender self-identity. The paper shows the value work has in the life of young Czech women. The options they women have, choices they make and strategies they create to cope with barriers to their self realisation at work and to combine work and private life according to how these are shaped by the socio-economic and politic
