Science and technology related to energy systems and energy technologies are part of a larger context of policies, market structures, power relations and values, beliefs and ideologies – in short: are part of society. The debates around CO2 emissions and climate change, fossil fuels and nuclear energy, renewable energy systems and smart metering transcend the technical, engineering, and natural scientific approach to complex energy issues.Against this background, perspectives from social sciences and humanities (SSH) can enrich higher education in natural science and engineering studies related to energy systems. The TEACHENER winter school offers 4 courses that enable participants improving skills and competences in social and ethical dimensions of energy issues.
