To Be or Not to Be a Parent? Parenting Aspiration of Men with Non-Normative Sexual Identities in Czechia
Original language description
Using data from an online survey of a representative random sample of 334 men with non-normative sexual identities in Czechia, this article investigates how non-normative sexualities of men shape their parenting desires and intentions and perceived barriers to parenthood. The results show that the parenting desires and intentions of gay men are weaker than bisexual and heterosexual men who claim same-sex attraction. The findings unveil the mechanism that links sexual identities to parenting intentions. In a CEE country with institutional barriers to non-heterosexual parenthood, this study fills a gap in the knowledge about the relationship between self-identified gay and bisexual men and not/becoming a parent.
