Josef Mocker and Prague´s medieval landscape (1872 - 1899)
Original language description
One of the most important representatives of the Czech Gothic Revival, the architect Josef Mocker (1835?1899), greatly shaped our understanding of what the medieval city of Prague was like. The paper illlustrates this by analysing three types of his projects: the restorations on the Cathedral of St Vitus and other sacred monuments; the documentation of both sacred and secular buildings slated for demolition and early drawings of medieval houses. Finally, the story of Karlstein Castle´s restoration is mentioned.
