This is a review of Documents of Irish Music History in the Long Nineteenth Century. Besides a summary of the individual chapters included in this edited volume, the review places this publication within its own context and draws on intersections between the chapters. It argues that this volume is an important addition to the current discourse and asks why certain references (for instance, to women in music or aspects of cultural transfer between Ireland and other European cultural centres and/or between different societal strata and musical genres) have not been emphasised more clearly in the introduction.
