Pietro Nobile, Director of the School of Architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, architect working for the imperial court and protégé of the Austrian Chancellor of State Clemens Lothar Metternich, attempted to combine science, mechanics, and aesthetics in architecture.
