Artistic practice as resistance. Ukrainian cinema in the circumstances of the USSR. 1920s- 1930s.
Original language description
Since the emergence of Ukrainian national cinema, the cinematographic field in Ukraine has effectively been a site of relentless – though not always open or visible to the average Ukrainian viewer – warfare. Yet Ukrainian filmmakers of all professions felt its full force. It was a war waged for independence, for the right to creative expression, and ultimately for the opportunity to work within the traditions of Ukrainian culture and art.
