Cell morphometry clearly demonstrates that astrogliosis is accompanied by changes in membrane currents and GFAP expression, as well as by the shortening and hypertrophy of glial processes, which may contribute to increased diffusion barriers in wounded nervous tissue and may affect the process of regeneration.
