The effect of plasma folate levels of mothers and newborns on intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) and birth weight (BW) in cohorts from Prague (319) and Teplice (444) was studied. The obtained results indicate a positive effect of folate on pregnancyoutcome, especially its potential to decrease the risk of IUGR in European population and lower birth weight in smoking European mothers.

Czech description
U skupiny matek a novorozenců z Prahy (319) a Teplic (444) byl studován vliv hladiny folátů v jejich plazmě na nitroděložní růstovou retardaci (IUGR) a porodní hmotnost (BW). Získané výsledky naznačují pozitivní vliv folátů na výsledky těhotenství, zvláště jejich potenciál snížit riziko IUGR u evropské populace a také snížit riziko nízké porodní hmotnosti u matek-kuřaček.
