    Extrasynaptic communication between neurons or neurons and glia is mediated by the diffusion of neuroactive substances through the extracellular space (ECS). Plastic changes in ECS volume, geometry and anisotropy significantly affect the spatial relationof glial processes towards synapses, glutamate or GABA 'spillover', synaptic cross-talk and neuron-glia communication/interaction.

    Extrasynaptická komunikace mezi neurony a mezi neurony a gliovými buňkami je zprostředkována difúzí neuroaktivních látek zkrze extracelulární prostor (ECP). Plastické změny objemu, geometrie a anizotropie ECP výrazně ovlivňují prostorové poměry mezi výběžky gliových buněk a synapsemi, spilover glutamátu nebo GABA, přenos signálů mezi synapsemi a komunikace a interakce mezi neurony a gliovými buňkami.
