Automated scoring of lymphocyte micronuclei by the MetaSystems Metafer image cytometry system and its application in studies of human mutagen sensitivity and biodosimetry of genotoxin exposure
Original language description
This mini-review presents the current stage of development of the Metasystems Metafer MNScore system for automated image analysis scoring of micronuclei (MN) in human lymphocytes. A new field for application of this method was opened in 2009, when it wasused in a biomonitoring study, assessing the effect of exposure to carcinogenic PAHs in ambient air on the frequency of MN in a group of policemen from Prague. The data from further studies are also presented, in which the above mentioned analysis system was used to evaluate the impact of air pollution on MN in bus drivers, asthmatic children, office and laboratory workers. It is concluded that the automated image analysis is a promising tool for improving risk assessment of human populations exposed to environmental or occupational mutagens.
